How do I maintain wooden windows?

Modern wooden windows are very easy to maintain. However, they should be cleaned at least once a year using a soft sponge soaked in warm water and a mild detergent (such as washing-up liquid).

After a few years, they should be sanded down and a new protective coat applied to the wood. You can paint your wooden frames, but you can also varnish, lacquer or oil them.

PVC windows, easy maintenance

PVC is very easy to maintain. Like wooden windows, PVC windows should be cleaned once or four times a year with soapy water to remove the dirt that naturally settles on the surface.

Remember to use a chamois or non-abrasive sponge to avoid scratching the PVC. You can also replace the soap with vinegar for extra protection against mould.

Maintenance of aluminium Windows

Aluminium windows are extremely durable. The way aluminium is treated means there’s no risk of the paint chipping. So you’ll never need to repaint your aluminium windows.

What’s more, dust adheres very little to their surface. However, you should still clean them every three months with soapy water, especially in urban areas. Pollution can damage the seals.
