The different types of glassing

It is sometimes difficult to choose the type of glassing you need for the comfort of your home. CRH is the glassing specialist for better energy, acoustic and solar control thanks to the different types of glassing, double glassing, triple glassing, acoustic glassing, solar glassing, CRH gives you its advice free of charge.

Improving thermal insulation with double glass window

Glass surfaces are one of the main sources of heat loss. High-performance double glassing can cut the energy dissipated through the glass by a factor of six compared with single glassing! The space between the panes is filled with a rare gas, usually argon, which transmits less heat than air. One of the glass surfaces in this intermediate space is coated with a layer of noble materials. This gives you low-emissivity glassing, which limits heat loss.

This also improves sound insulation. If you live in a very noisy environment, acoustic glassing is preferable. Triple glassing will further improve thermal insulation, but there will also be a loss of light from the glassed surface.

Protect yourself against intrusion and fire with the right glass

Picture windows are a potential route of intrusion for ill-intentioned people. Wired glass holds pieces of glass in place, which avoids the risk of injury in the event of accidental breakage, for example during ball games. However, it is no more resistant than standard glassing.

Laminated glass stays in place after an impact. It therefore provides effective protection against thieves trying to break into your home, particularly on a ground floor that is more exposed by nature. Toughened glass, on the other hand, can withstand temperatures of up to 200°C and offers greater resistance to fire, which is an obvious safety feature in the event of a disaster.

CRH installs all types of glassing in Jette, Brussels, Ganshoren and Ixelles.
